Why the Accelerando Music Teaching Method works for Piano and Guitar

Both guitar and piano can play:

chord-melody (chords in the background along with a melody)

counterpoint (two melodies at once)

bass-melody (low notes plus melody)

Therefore, most element Accelerando Piano Method are used to teach guitar.

Technique training for the two are usually unique, although there are many interesting parallels in terms of finger movements, such as minimizing hand lift after sounding a note.

Below are examples comparing music for the two instruments:

Minuet in G BWV 114, Anna Magdalena Bach Book (bass-melody, guitar)

This is an example of the book-quality sheet music our students receive for free, arranged and notated by our master teacher on Finale software.  Notice the detailed fingerings for the right and left hands (p-i-m-a, 1-2-3-4), which make the music easier to play.  The guitar sounds an octave lower than written. Therefore, the music is an octave higher than the piano the example below.

Tablature (the lower staff) is included for commercial sales; our students learn to read standard guitar music (the upper staff).

Minuet in G BWV 114, Anna Magdalena Bach Book (bass-melody, piano)

Fingerings are not included for piano score examples because our students use commercial versions which we cannot copy.  The first two beats in the bass clef are usually played as a chord.  The single half note was used as illustration of guitar-piano similarities.

Fur Elise, Beethoven (chord-melody, guitar)

Fur Elise, Beethoven (chord-melody, piano)

Given the similarities between guitar and piano noted above, many training principles in the Accelerando Piano Method work for both instruments.  Thus, our guitar students can achieve the same fast, professional-quality results.

For example, guitarists benefit from the Digital Flashcards Software because they learn the treble clef notes found in guitar music.  In addition, they also learn the bass clef.  As a result, they are better prepared for college music study, and can easily make their own arrangements of piano music--a vast resource that expands musical horizons for guitarists.
